I watched filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s new trilogy of movies at the weekend, pretty much back to back, all in beautifully shot HD film below. Deeply existential in nature, all three films explore the themes that unite us all as humans sharing a snippet of life on this planet – love, death, poverty, happiness, meaning, and more – regardless of what part of the world we happened to be born into. There is something arresting and immediate about these three films, something deeply intimate about how the interviews are captured. People’s eyes stayed with me for a long time after I’d finished watching the films.
The struggles talked about reminded me of a quote I heard listening to a podcast a while ago: “Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”. Somehow it’s a particularly pertinent sentiment watching these films and being aware of the state of affairs around the globe.
